MassHealth Enrollment dropped by about 17,000 in Jan. 2007 due to eligibility redeterminations. Enrollment has risen steadily since. Increases are due, in part, to expanded eligibility and increased outreach and enrollment resulting from the 2006 Health Care Reform Law. As of 3/31/08, more than 1.1 million residents were enrolled. Approximately 63% are families and children, 19% are disabled individuals and 11% are low-income elders. View Chart>>
MassHealth eligibility has expanded through a series of incremental steps since 1997. This chart shows the populations that have been made eligible for MassHealth as a result of these expansions, by category and income level (relative to the federal poverty guidelines).
