Health Reform Suffers As Non-Profits Shut Down

One of the great strengths of the Massachusetts health reform effort has been recognition by the state and the health policy community that maximizing insurance coverage requires more than just expanding eligibility for public programs. Effective reform requires ongoing financial support for outreach and enrollment, ongoing assessment of health care disparities, and an eye toward the consumer experience on the ground to assure that high quality coverage and care are available to all.

Health Care Quality and Cost

The Massachusetts Medicaid Policy Institute has a seat on the Massachusetts Health Care Quality and Cost Council, which works to improve health care quality, contain health care costs, and reduce racial and ethnic disparities in health care.

The Health Care Quality and Cost Council on Oct. 22 approved a “Roadmap to Cost Containment,” a plan for controlling health care costs in the Commonwealth through 11 interdependent strategies. The Council believes these strategies, if implemented together in a deliberate and sustained manner, will contain cost growth in health care in Massachusetts and also improve the quality of care.
