Dr. Meenan is Dean and Professor of Health Services at Boston University School of Public Health. He also serves as Chairman and Professor of the Department of Socio-Medical Sciences and Community Medicine, and as Professor of Medicine at Boston University School of Medicine.
Dr. Meenan is a graduate of Harvard College (AB in Government), Boston University School of Medicine (MD), the School of Public Health at the University of California, Berkley (M.P.H. in Health Planning and Administration), and the Graduate School of Management at Boston University (M.B.A. in Health Care Management). He trained in Internal Medicine at Boston City Hospital and in Rheumatology at the University of California, San Francisco, where he was a Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholar.
Dr. Meenan has been on the faculty at Boston University since 1977. Prior to becoming Dean of the School of Public Health, he served as Arthritis Section Head and Director of the NIH-funded Multipurpose Arthritis Center in the School of Medicine. He is a member of the American Society for Clinical Investigation, a past president of the American College of Rheumatology, and a former officer of the Board of Trustees of the Arthritis Foundation at both the national and state levels. He currently serves as a trustee at Regis College and at the New England College of Optometry.
Dr. Meenan's professional interests focus on the management of academic institutions, and his research interests focus on outcome measurement and health economics as they relate to chronic diseases. He has been awarded many research grants, has published over 100 peer-reviewed articles, and has given numerous invited lectures throughout the U.S. and abroad.
