The Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts Foundation is committed to assessing our grantmaking and policy work. We believe that it is critical to have clear goals complemented by processes to reflect on the steps we are taking and to evaluate our success. We undertake this evaluation in multiple ways. The Foundation:

• includes stakeholders in planning and evaluating
• assesses the extent to which we are communicating clearly and effectively with our partners
• sets goals for each grantmaking area
• requires grantees to identify the strengths and challenges of their work
• shares the findings from our grantmaking and policy work with the broader community.

This assessment process is geared to assure the greatest impact given our mission and finite resources. Below please find past evaluations of several grant program areas and initiatives.  The Board and staff of the Foundation are currently reexamining our approaches to evaluation to improve the information it yields for internal and external use.
